Geography

Welcome to Lower Darwen Primary School’s geography page. Here you will find a profile of the subject leader and a number of key documents.

Geography Leader Profile

Mr Reid has been subject lead for 18 months and this is his first subject lead post. As a keen walker, he was delighted to have the opportunity to lead geography as he sees its practical relevance and also its potential to inspire children by developing their understanding of the world. Mr Reid’s favourite aspect of geography is mapwork and he loves to put this skill into practice when he is venturing in the great outdoors!

Geography Intent

We provide a broad, balanced and creative geography curriculum that meets the needs of all children across our school.  By the end of KS2, pupils will have an in depth understanding of where they live, its impact within the United Kingdom and the wider world. Children learn about how human actions have affected the planet and its future trajectory. Geography in the spring term is linked to sustainability – particularly the outcomes of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP).  Children develop their geographical skills using mapwork, fieldwork and applying their knowledge to solve real world problems. At LDPS, children are given the opportunity to explore the world through a geographical lens and be lost in wonder at the beautiful world we live in. This is achieved using our ‘3Cs’ approach – creation, community and compassion alongside our curriculum toolkits.
